Scores for the Retreat

🎶 The Retreat Choir – Your Musical Home Base! 🎶
One of the most exciting features of the Idyllwild Choral Retreat is our vibrant Retreat Choir! This is where our voices come together to create something truly special—and we want you to feel fully prepared and inspired from day one.
📄 On this page, you'll find downloadable PDFs of the music scores we’ll be learning and performing together during the retreat. Take some time to get familiar with the pieces—you can print them out, mark them up, or load them onto your favorite digital reader.
You'll want to spend some time learning these pieces, so you can be confident with your part and are prepared to fully participate in the music making.
💬 Have questions about the music? Don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to support you every step of the way. Whether you’re unsure about a tricky rhythm or want tips for warm-ups, we’ve got your back.
📹 And we love seeing your progress! Consider posting a short video or audio clip of yourself practicing. It’s a great way to connect with fellow singers and build a sense of community before we even arrive in the mountains.
Let’s make this retreat unforgettable—come ready to sing, grow, and shine!
Note: The full choir will be working the following pieces:
Sicut Cervus
Regina Coeli
Sehnsucht
Ubi Caritas
The Sallow Harp
All other pieces attached here are for small group/solo assignments

Question: On Regina Coeli, will there be solists singing where it says "Solo", or is everyone singing those parts together? I've heard it recorded both ways.

OK - so I'm looking and listening to recordings of "How to Go On." YIKES this is hard! Will we be getting lots of help during the retreat on this one? It is quite atonal and I'm struggling!

This is me croaking out the alto part on the first few pages of Regina Coeli. I'm learning the parts of the other pieces as well and quite enjoy it! Can't wait for the sessions up in Idylwild!

Hi everyone! 👋 My name is Mary, and I'm super excited to meet everyone at the choral retreat! I was working on the Lauridsen today and thought I'd share a little snippet 😊 I'm trying to get outside my comfort zone more, and sharing my singing definitely feels vulnerable, as I tend towards being a perfectionist 🙃 Anyone else feel this way too?
This is probably one of my favorite pieces we'll be singing, since I love Laurdisen's harmonies and am looking forward to singing this live as an ensemble! -
So far, my "practicing" has consisted mostly of downloading the PDFs to my tablet, and listening to this playlist during my commute to/from work: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIqTqjQUj4ZS7m3oPxvbKUwtD30z9yYtj
I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to post an actual singing video, but I'll consider it, 😀 I enjoyed watching & hearing you both, and and I admire your courage, authenticity & vulnerability 🙏❤️

In addition to listening to the YouTube recordings, I have been playing the alto parts on the piano to help me learn them. For the small ensemble piece, "O Salutaris Hostia", I actually recorded each of the SSAA parts, in case it might be helpful for my ensemble-mates! 😊 Here is a link to those recordings: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nF0_FN1JN36am4ZiScjSlieDd-jsWBdb
This weekend I spent some time practicing the alto part for "Lullaby for the Newly-Hatched". Again, here is a link to a recording, in case any altos would like to practice with it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HeSElbeCcf_0Abg6qkHjDokYTem7rdTd
Today I decided it was probably time to do some actual vocalizing, instead of just listening to and creating recordings. So... here it is, a video of me practicing "Lullaby" starting from page 4: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ELkFMVQZ7xVn9L3T9GVf2sGWVcuk5ePm
