Wins on the Board

Building confidence in your performance ability is a long term project. It can really benefit from some self reflection and celebration. One effective strategy is logging your "wins on the board." These are the moments you conquered in performance. Maybe you surprised yourself and found a new idea in a character. Was it a time that you were not feeling a little under the weather, but still went out there and slayed? Maybe you had a memory slip, but just kept going and made it work. Wins on the Board can be times you overcame something or simply times you truly enjoyed the process of performing. In this Discussion of the Week, we want to hear about your wins on the board. Tell us about at time that you conquered in performance! As a bonus, if there is a YouTube video of that moment.. drop in a link! We'd love to hear all about it and celebrate with you!

In my experience the most satisfying performances arise when I manage to get in the mindset of not having to prove anything to anybody (especially myself). On the other hand, performances where I want to prove to myself a certain level I would now see myself in, are most often performances that would not leave me with a complete "round" feeling. Maybe it sounds like kitchen psychology but I think that it is like in the "real world". We are not responsible for what people make out of ourselves (or our performances), but we are responsible for enjoying our singing to the best that we can. One of my former teachers told me: "The audience doesn't hear, what you hear, but they feel what you feel". I find this most true and most difficult to achieve :)
