Hi, Ray from Ohio. I just started a 90-day coaching intensive with Heidi. This challenge sounds like a good addition to help me excel with the coaching and so much more. Is there a place where I need to sign up?

    Vocal Goals for 2025

To continue to relax my larynx and to learn to turn and unturn it appropriately and to the correct degree as needed; to consistently find the right mix of registers up and down my voice; to consistency produce the right vowel and to find it again after closing to a consonant; to rid my tone of airiness; and to continue, with the help of my current (amazing!) teacher, to untangle the many-tangled snarl that is my vocal technique after a dozen voice teachers and dozens of conductors over the course of forty years.

Just a partial list, of course; I also hope to become conversant in opera repertoire and opera, period. Currently listening to three versions of Mozart's Magic Flute: one with Fritz Wunderlich as Tamino and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as Papageno; one with Gundula Janowitz as Pamina and Lucia Popp as the Queen of the Night; and one in the brilliant English translation of Jeremy Sams .

Tips: check out https://musicwebinternational.com/ralph-moores-surveys/ and https://www.musicweb-international.com/classrev/2019/Aug/Opera-untouchables-survey.htm: these have been my guides to recordings, which I've found invaluable; and

Sir Denis Forman's A Night at the Opera: An Irreverant Guide to the Plots, the Singers, the Composers, and the Recordings, which I've poured over. I started recently as a person nearly entirely unschooled in opera, and this book has been my chief introduction. Such fun!

For more sober reflection, I've begun reading Carolyn Abbate's and Roger Parker's A History of Opera: the Last Four Hundred Years.

And watching all the footage I can find of Tito Gobbi, especially his master classes. Brilliant.
