    Hi there!

I am an Italian woman and I can sing all the female register. I don't know anything about the American folk song tradition. I am happy to be able to discover new things from scratch with this TWI. Which song should I choose to start with?

    Ciao! 🌞😎✌🏻

Ciao! E benvenuta.

Ciao! And welcome. Nice to meet you, Letizia. All of these songs are printed in 2 or 3 keys. For your first folk song you could do a shorter one like 'Poor Wayfaring Stranger' or 'I'm a Stranger Here' (I forgot to put that one on the list.) I'm so pleased to see more sopranos and mezzo sopranos and contraltos singing these songs.

    Hi there!

    Some questions for the livestream:

    1. Is blues and swing to be considered "folk music"?

    2. What distinguishes "Summertime" from a folk song?

    3. They all must be sung within a lyric voice or it's ok also to sing with a musical theatre/not lyric voice?

    4. Why most folk songs are sung by baritones?

    Ciao! 🌞😎✌🏻

great questions. Hopefully we answered #1 and #2 and #3 for you in the livestream.
#4 I really want to hear more women singing these songs. Why is it mostly men? I think there is still a feeling that most of the protagonists in these songs are male. They don't have to be male protagonists and/or female singing actors can play the male character. On day 3 I asked participants to share recordings of other performances. Here's one: https://youtu.be/w2E81KRDCHA?si=8weXHIsAKQzLzeaa
On day 5 we talked about characterization. Any singing actor can portray any character in a recital setting. I've played plenty of female characters, plus a dog, a horse, a dragon, a snowman, etc. etc. etc. Steve talked about acting and storytelling today.
Why is it mostly baritones? You can change that!

    Hi there!

In the next few days, I will post a video of I'm a Stranger.

Now I have a question: what happens if a singer presents a program in which he sings both lyrical and non-lyrical songs (ex. Kohn and Dylan)? can you sing different styles in the same recital?

    Thanks!

    Ciao! 🌞😎✌🏻

Hi there! This is my first attempt of "I'm a stranger here" without accompaniment: I'm still getting organized.

I missed a note. I would like suggestions!

Your style fits this song like a glove.

Can I play this for Steve?

Look, I was sitting and reading the score in a half voice... I missed a note and I was calante in the descending thirds. 😅 Today I should be able to record some more videos... In more decent conditions. I'll try to do it in other styles too, just for fun.

But I'm still having a problem with the arrangement because I don't understand if I can buy the "low price offer" of Appcompanist also with Android... otherwise, I need time to understand how to edit the videos where I play the piano sitting and at the same time sing standing! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I ask you for a few more days, if possible!

    Ciao! 🌞😎✌🏻
