My apologies for the delayed response on this (I was out of office last week). Thank you so much for sharing these. Though you are struggling with some frustrating limitations, my advice would be to take your rehabilitation slowly and focus on rebuilding those technical foundations gently with reliable strategies. First, I would consider spending a week or more simply working through these pieces on an SOVT (lip trill, or straw), so you are re-balancing your breath and the sub/supra glottal pressures. Also, consider practicing phrase by phrase - really concentrating on your mechanics. Be intentional about how you are using your breath and line that up first (of course, your body mechanics NEED to be optimal while you are doing this). Your actual tone is quite lovely. With some intentional foundational support, that beautiful sound can really bloom! Please continue to share your progress!

thank you. and nothing to apologize for. im happy that i had confidence in posting them for practice sake. thats a new confidence in me i never had before.

i turned myself down during the recital today but then listening back i think i notice the actually issues instead of my voice being horrible. its progress. i put the lol when i came on. but then..... yeah.

i keep thinking of buying a straw. lip trills are inconsistent for me.

wow!! That is a huge leap forward. Being able to simply acknowledge that you are making progress and seeing what you might have heard as flaws as opportunity for growth is a GAME CHANGER!! Please keep this up.  What a beautiful journey you are on and I can't wait to see where you go with it :) ... BRAVA and congrats on a lovely performance.

I haven't given too much time to Caro Mio Ben as I planned to so I am posting mine here instead. I felt sad that I was going in a good direction.

I didn't even warm up today which isn't really a good habit to get into but I usually don't do that.

I let a friend listen to this and I feel down. He was kind of hypercritical. I reminded him this was a practice session and I'm still learning the piece and he still told me all this stuff and asked what my teacher thinks of my endeavors. It felt negative.  Ever since I got in lessons he's been negative and I got more positive remarks from him before I was in lessons again .  I practice at my pace because singing makes me happy and I have sadly had health issues for a year

I am so sorry to hear that you are getting negative feedback from your friend. Always remember that singing is a lifelong project and we are always (no matter what your level) working to improve and adjust to the voice that we have now. We want to be really careful about how we frame that project. Any negativity can and WILL produce deleterious effects on our output. That is one reason why I work to promote a safe space here in the tonebase voice community for singers to work and share. That said, if you don't feel like you are making true progress in your journey, that is worth exploring. I am always here to help :)

making and posting this video is a huge step in the right direction. Your tone quality is quite lovely. If you want to use this as a teaching tool, I would suggest that you listen back with as objective an ear as possible and give yourself 3 notes. Make 2 of those notes positive (what do you LIKE about your sound?) and find 1 area that you would like to improve. Framing your journey that way will ensure you maintain a positive  experience WHILE finding and working in areas of improvement. Training works best in small increments and maintaining a positive attitude is KEY ;)

yes. i agree  this piece ....or any piece i still need to work on it sectionally rather than sing the whole piece. it tends to be a bad habit still to not section things well. i think now calling it a beginners aria like how i heard some teachers say it is a disservice, its really lovely and can be enjoyed and loved.  i only spent three days on the melody. thats not enough time to master it.  i felt myself missing a lot of notes. i tried to explain that to my friend because i have been trying to encourage him to find some lessons as well. but i know i wasnt comfortable putting this in the stream ;) thank you for listening.

plus these manufactured vocal guide tracks arent helpful learning sectionally but it was a good guide if i wanted to attempt to record to see how much i know. not a lot. :)

i did not listen back. but i can do that. i am afraid i will cry . i know i have other things i have recorded that i probably sound better in. i appreciate that you took the time and for your feedback.

Hi Rebecca. You have a lovely voice and I'm sorry your friend offered negative feedback when you shared your recording. One interesting phenomenon I found when my son began voice lessons is that when people heard he was taking lessons they began to expect him to sing perfectly! Of course, that's not how things work. He received much criticism from one person in particular, which contributed (amongst many other things) to his stepping down as the musician at our church. I was super thankful that he has an innate confidence and has three wonderful music teachers (voice, piano, composition) who supported and encouraged him during that time.

It is important to surround yourself with positive and encouraging people and also to begin to support yourself by learning how to find and keep that positivity within yourself. I wish you the best of luck, and don't let anyone discourage you from continuing to sing. You said it yourself, "singing makes me happy." What better reason is there for singing?

       Thank you.

      you are very kind

i am happy to receive feedback. i am sorry about your son.  it is ashame how one person can get in someone's head. its been days and i am still feeling betrayed by my friend but i can trust my teacher, singing communities including this one and any feedback i get here.
