Who was your first music teacher and what was the most valuable lesson they taught you?

In talking to singers over the years, it's clear to me that there are always mentors and teachers that helped them on their musical journey. Often it’s the first music teacher that really sets you on your way. In this discussion of the week, we are digging deep and talking about our FIRST music teachers. It could be your church choir director, the lady who lived up the street and showed you how to play "chop sticks," your elementary school music teacher who took a chance on you and let you play the silly secretary in the kiddie musical. Think back. Who was your first music teacher? Where did you meet them? In what capacity did you work with them? Most importantly, what was the most valuable lesson they taught you?

My first voice teacher basically gave me hope. There was one day that I sang a tune and she said it sounded beautiful. I don’t think I have ever reproduced that singing style, but I always remember that moment and have searching to find it ever since.

So much of our singing has to do with the mindset that we bring to the sound. It's amazing what an encouraging and truthful teacher can bring out in a singer! It's a beautiful lesson to learn early on, and I am so glad that you had a wonderful and positive experience. What a gift!  It truly can make all the difference in the life of a singer. That said, please take full advantage of tonebase voice! I'm here to offer the same positive and actionable feedback. Let's help you find that style and feeling again :)
